[AATHER] Memory: 02
Memory: meeting Crescendo + discussing life, death, and dreams with Frederic
Game: Pandora's trauma game
Memory form: Fist-sized clay jar. Break to view. One use.
Clip 1 (1:26 through the end)
Clip 2 (whole video up to right before the ship is hit)
Script: here
It's offscreen in the game, but this memory will actually begin with Polka, Frederic, Beat, and Salsa being found stranded in the water clinging to a piece of driftwood. Once they're brought on board and cleaned up, this scene begins.
The first half of this memory is pretty light! Though once again she doesn't know the entire context. But this guy- Crescendo- saved their lives, so that's nothing to shake a stick at. She just doesn't know how they ended up stranded in the water like that in the first place...
She recognizes Frederic and Beat from her starter memory though she only knows Beat's name. Maybe they're all traveling together, but why?
Then at night she says she's worried about Allegretto and the others. Going by the people she remembers it would be safe to assume the boy who was with them in her starter is Allegretto, but she can't know for sure, especially since she only remembers him and another girl- but 'the others' implies there are more. :\?? WHO ARE ALL THESE PEOPLE AND WHAT ARE WE DOING.
Then there's the second half, in which it's just her and Frederic. This is where she learns the most, as well as gains some new questions. IN LIST FORMAT BECAUSE this half is also a bit of a clusterfuck because there's a lot of references and subtext regarding things and knowledge that Polka doesn't remember yet.
She learns:
- Frederic's (first) name
- Her own name (Polka)
- Frederic believes that this world exists within his dream
- Because of that he is struggling with his sense of reality
- He's going to die soon? :(
- He had a sister named Emilia, who was the same age as Polka when she died of an illness. So now she knows she's 14.
- Implications that she herself is going to die soon D:??
- Frederic is a composer! And Emilia lives on through his music!!!
- She's definitely close to Frederic in some way, and feels that she's learned a lot since meeting him.
After Frederic leaves, Polka talks to herself for a bit. She says that she's been dwelling on the past and ignoring the future. This isn't something Polka's been doing in Aather- sure, she wants memories, but she's been very much invested in her life as it is now, with the people she knows now.
But at the same time this memory also vaguely reveals why she was thinking that way, because directly implies more than once that she's going to die soon. WHICH WILL BE ALARMING but at the same time hard to accept because she talks about it so easily, and Frederic doesn't say anything to the contrary so it's like- it can't really be something that terrible, can it??
And she talks about Frederic as someone who she believes in and who helps her believe in the future etc- she can sense some of that from the memory, but again there's a lot of context leading up to this point that she doesn't remember or understand yet.
And near the very end she tacks on "You help me be more positive about the future. And what I need to do." which implies... there's something she needs to do. MYSTERIES.
SO TO SUMMARIZE
- I know a lot of people and am maybe on a journey of some kind with them???
- My name is Polka
- Frederic is someone I believe in! But he's dying? :(
- I might be dying soon but maybe not I don't know what's going on with that????
- There's something I need to do :\?
- being on a boat at night is pretty :')
